The Library
The library is a whole school resource and is open to students and pupils from 8am. From 3.10 to 5pm the library provides an opportunity for students to complete homework and study. During the school day, the library is available to classes, and to the sixth form for private study. Pupils are welcome to use the facility at break and lunchtimes.
The Library holds a stock of fiction and non-fiction books as well as newspapers and a variety of magazines. It also has a dedicated printer for student use.
Reading Groups meet each week, during lunch time, for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. As well as reading and discussing a number of novels, we shadow the Carnegie/Greenaway medal awards and post book reviews on our reading group page of the Carnegie web site.
A Book Fair is held each year and Year 7, 8 and 9 have the opportunity to buy good titles online at reduced prices through the Scholastic Teen Digital Book Club. There are thousands of book titles to choose from , priced from 99p. A percentage of the money raised from both of these is returned to the library in free books. The Library is also the home of the Connexions Centre, with useful careers information. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 are welcome to drop in to meet the Connexions Advisor who works with us on Friday lunchtimes.
